Last 16 cup draw

Dear All,

It's the moment that you've all been waiting for (well 16 of you anyway!).

Live from the Diving in the Box FF League Headquarters here in Pilot's View, we have the draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup.

Once again, in the interests of impartiality, Brother Johnston will assist me by drawing out the teams.

Teams going into the hat today are as follows (league status in brackets)
Harpic Amsterdam (P)
Yer Ma's Athletic (C)
Joey's Monsters (C)
Muckamore Utd (C)
Au Revoir Thierry14 (P)
Rafa's Goatee (P)
Steprightin (C)
Gazza's Piping Hots (C)
Cherry United (P) / Kirbs Crawlers (P)
Happy Monkeys (P)
KFC Academical (P)
Black Socks Red Tops (C)
Boys of Summer (C)
Virgin Surfers (C)
The Well Hungarians (C)
The Dogs Ballacks (P)

So without further adieu, let the draw commence (drumroll Stevie please....)

KFC Academical (P7) vs Yer Ma's Athletic (C1)

Nasty draw for the Colonel against the Conference leader - a cracking match in prospect!

The Well Hungarians (C12) vs Black Socks Red Tops (C9)

Both managers will be happy with this draw. Tough one for Davy though as it looks like Brother Nugent's name could be on the cup this season. Guaranteed Conference progression.

Boys of Summer (C7) vs Virgin Surfers (C14)

Another all Conference clash between the Boys and cup specialists the Surfers. Anyone's match and although Brother McGinley is favourite, it's hard to go against the Surfers with their Cup tradition.

Joey's Monsters (C5) vs Muckamore Utd (C17)

ANOTHER all Conference clash which guarantees a strong Conference presence in the quarter finals - although the remaining Premier League teams might feel a little relieved. Joey looks odds on favourite to win but then again, Muckamore have bugger all else to play for! Potential banana skin for the Monsters (but unlikely).

Kirbs Crawlers (P1) vs The Dogs Ballacks (P8)

Ouch!!! The new league leader draws the defedning league champion in this battle opf the Gooners. Expect a crunching cup tie which will truly test the Crawlers credentials as a potential champion.

Rafa's Goatee (P12) vs The Happy Monkeys (P10)

The second all-Premiership clas in a row sees former Cup Champion McDermott pitted against in-form Happy Monkeys. Another cracking tie in store as the Goatee really fances his chances of winning this competition, and the sky seems to be the limit for Brother Shields at the moment. Too close to call.

Harpic Amsterdam (P9) vs Au Revoir Thierry14 (P4)

Two more top ten Premiership teams meet in the second round. Harpic is lucky to be in the second round at all so maybe he too has his name on the trophy. A Nugent v Molloy final anyone?

Steprightin (C4) vs Gazza's Piping Hots (C2)

And finally, another tight Conference match between two 'high flying' (titter titter) Conference teams. Although there may be only two places between them, the points difference would have to suggest a victory for the Pipers.

And that completes the draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup. Ties to be played on the weekend of Saturday February 16, 2008.

Let's recap on the full draw once more.

KFC Academical (P7) vs Yer Ma's Athletic (C1)

The Well Hungarians (C12) vs Black Socks Red Tops (C9)

Boys of Summer (C7) vs Virgin Surfers (C14)

Joey's Monsters (C5) vs Muckamore Utd (C17)

Kirbs Crawlers (P1) vs The Dogs Ballacks (P8)

Rafa's Goatee (P12) vs The Happy Monkeys (P10)

Harpic Amsterdam (P9) vs Au Revoir Thierry14 (P4)

Steprightin (C4) vs Gazza's Piping Hots (C2)

Amazing that with 9 Conference teams and 7 Premiership teams, we only have one match invloving a team from each league. This means that the quarter finals will have at least four Conference teams and at least three Premiership teams. Oh what fun!

So there you have it. An exciting second round in store.

Good luck to one and all!
