League Update 25/04

Dear All,

With just four weekends to go in this year's Diving in the Box Fantasy Football League, it's time to pull out all the stops to achieve your dreams, hopes and ambitions - at whatever level they may be.

Some managers are vying for the league title, particularly The Dogs Ballacks and The Grapes of Raff. Just four points separate the teams - less than a goal, own goal, penalty save or sending off!

Some managers want to make sure that secure a place in Europe. The Penalty Kings currently occupy the third Champions League slot but a fierce battle is taking place for the UEFA Cup positions, currently held by KFC Academical and Minus Three FC - although contested also by Ashburton Groove N7, Maclacticos, Harpic Amsterdam, Minibabybelle FC, Flexie's Fairies and, believe it or not...................

.......... EVEN THE PROFESSOR!!!!!!

Yes, a lesson to be heeded by ALL managers in this crazy game. A massive score of 111 points this week has seen Brother Festraerts leap from 19th and the prospect of division two football to 11th place - just 42 points off fifth place. A few more weeks like this and Europe is a real possibility for The Prof who must have eventually changed the batteries in his famous magic calculator.

Some managers are desparate to avoid Division Two football next season with too many teams to mention in the melting pot.

Some definitely don't want to go down and are refusing to give up without a late fight... just look at the latest last gasp attempts from Hoofers (103 points) and 5-Star (97 points). From nowhere, they now have a glimmer of hope to cling on to.

Unfortunately others are heading in the wrong direction. Who would have thought that a score of 30 points would see Real Goldfish fall from 12th position to 20th position. Brother McAvoy now teeters on the brink of the red zone just one week after threatening to break into the top ten!!!! It's crazy I'm telling ya!!!!!

And what about the two time league champion and last year's cup champion Gulladuff Mafia who I'm sure has believed all season that he had everything in hand but now finds himself in danger of playing his football in the lower league next year!!! Having been knocked out of the cup in the semi finals last week, has Brother McDermott time to refocus on the league and make up those crucial 28 points to survive? It's not easy when everyone around you is in exactly the same predicament.

The only team in the league that should really be 100% resigned to its fate at this stage is Cool Dude Zoo, in no man's land at the bottom of the table. An absolutely appalling performance this season from Chuckle Brother Senior while son of Chucky - The Mersey Miracles - is also in danger of paying the relegation forfeit.

The Miracles and indeed The Muppetaldinhos could still rescue something from their season by overtaking The Busted Sofas or The Virgin Surfers in the final weeks. (Hint: Maynesy, you might need to use some transfers!).

Speaking of which, this week's transfer password (for anyone with transfers left) is MOBILE and the telephone number is 0901 601 4024.

So my friends, as you can see, there are still lots of surprises in store in these final few weeks.

As Slur Ballix Fergiscum once said, it's well and truly 'squeaky bum time' in the most crucial season in DITB history.

Don't give up and don't rest on your laurels. Instead, have a look at the performances this week of The Prof and Real Goldfish, prime examples that in this game, anything can happen...

... AND IT USUALLY DOES!!!!

League Update.

Dear All,

I'm back from hols and ready for the crucial season run-in.

In advance of tomorrow's update, I thought I should send you the current league table as things stand - taking into account last week's mid-week games which have had an important bearing on the title race.

Firstly, let me confirm the results of the FFA Cup semi finals.

Maclacticos 39 vs 32 Gulladuff Mafia

Harpic Amsterdam 38 vs 59 Minus Three FC

Congratulations then to Maclacticos and Minus Three FC who will compete for the FFA Cup on Saturday May 19.


Most important development in the league while I've been away is that The Dogs Ballacks have taken over from The Grapes at the top.

Both have opened up a bit of a gap to Penalty Kings in third and then another gap to Minus Three and KFC in the UEFA Cup positions.

The remainder of the top ten however are still in with a fighting chance of making Europe.

In the crucial black and red zones, the Prof looks like he's pulled clear but the likes of Gulladuff Mafia, Gazza's Piping Hots and Leteminletemout (to name but a few) are still struggling to make the cut and may have to wait until the last day to find out their fate.

Anyway, that's the scores on the doors but all could change this time tomorrow so my friends, for a brief period only, READ 'EM AND WEEP!!!

League Update

Dear All,

Despite a fairly tight and low scoring week overall , there were still enough points on offer to see The Dogs Ballacks close the gap at the top to a single point (!!!!!!!), defending league champion Maclacticos move into the top five and former twice league champions The Prof and Gulladuff Mafia swap places in those crucial red and black zones. Would be a major surprise if one of those two managers was playing Division Two football next season.

This week's highest scorers were The Prince of Darkness and The Muppetaldinhos on 38 points apiece, closely followed by Flexie's Fairies on 36.

Praying for some extra points over Easter will be KFC Academical on 12 points, Mersey Miracles on 16 and both Hoofers and Kirbs Crawlers on 17.

As the season end draws near, it looks like we're on for one of the closest title races ever while all eyes will also be on that crucial area in the middle of the table where so many teams are scrapping for a place in next season's Premier League - even the Black Socks are making a last ditch effort for survival, moving up to 25th position.

At the minute the cut-off point is 1200 points but teams within 50 points either way must surely still be worried about their future status.

This means that the following stalwarts could be playing in the lower league next season... which in turn will make promotion all the more difficult next year. It really is time to separate the mice from the men.
