League Update

Dear All,

Not much change at the top or bottom this week but plenty of jumping around mid-table.

Normally this wouldn't really be of interest to anyone but with the league being split into two divisions next season, what goes on in the middle of the table is increasingly important with every passing week.

Just to remind you all, the top 20 teams will make up the Premier Division next season and the rest will be fighting the bit out in Division Two.

Highest scorers this week were Gazza's Piping Hots on 42, followed by Real Goldfish and Cool Dude Zoo on 33.

This week's lowest score, and lowest score of the season, goes to The Muppetaldinhos with NO POINTS but you've got to admire his loyalty to the Mighty Reds, which may yet earn him a place in the FF football elite next season.

Less dramatic but still terrible scores were clocked up by Mersey Miracles (8) and 5-Star (9).

Now it's time to look at who has moved from the red zone to the black zone and vice versa.

Red to Black: The Blue Monkeys (23rd to 17th), Gazza's Piping Hots (25th to 19th)

Black to Red: Decies Ant Atac (20th to 22nd), 5-Star (18th to 23rd) and Mersey Miracles (20th to 25th)

Gazza Mac Watch: Great week for Gaz as he clocks up the week's highest score, makes the last 16 of the cup and moves back into the black zone. Bugger!

A quick note on the FFA Cup replay between Con Villa and The Prof's XI. In the event of another unlikely draw, Con Villa will go through thanks to the initial home draw.

The draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup will take place before the end of the week. I know you can hardly contain your excitement!

So that's it for another week my friends.

Until next time,

READ 'EM AND WEEP!!!!!!...............

Dear All,

It's the moment that you've all been waiting for (well 17 of you anyway!).

Live from the Diving in the Box FF League Headquarters here in Pilot's View, we have the draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup.

Once again, in the interests of impartiality, Brother Johnston will assist me by drawing out the teams.

Teams going into the hat today are as follows (current league position in brackets) ...

Brendy's Bruisers (16)
The Blue Monkeys (17)
Gulladuff Mafia (28)
The Penalty Kings (4)
The Grapes of Raff (1)
Yer Ma's Athletic (21)
Minus Three FC (6)
Bazking in Glory (7)
Flexy's Fairies (10)
Gazza's Piping Hots (19)
Virgin Surfers (36)
Decies Ant Atac (22)
Harpic Amsterdam (8)
Maclacticos (9)
Cherry United (11)
Con Villa (31) / The Prof's XI (12) *

* A replay will take place this week to decide who goes through from this match. Result will be announced on Wednesday. In the event of another draw, Con Villa will go through as they were initially drawn at home.

So without further adieu, let the draw commence (drumroll Stevie please....)

Gulladuff Mafia (28) vs Gazza's Piping Hots (19)

Cherry United (11) vs Maclacticos (9)

Minus Three FC (6) vs Bazking in Glory (7)

Flexy's Fairies (10) vs Virgin Surfers (36)

Decies Ant Atac (22) vs The Penalty Kings (4)

Brendy's Bruisers (16) vs Harpic Amsterdam (8)

The Blue Monkeys (17) vs Con Villa (31) OR The Prof's XI (12)

Yer Ma's Athletic (21) vs The Grapes of Raff (1)

And that completes the draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup. Ties to be played on the weekend of Saturday February 17, 2007.

Let's recap on the full draw....

Gulladuff Mafia (28) vs Gazza's Piping Hots (19)
Cherry United (11) vs Maclacticos (9)
Minus Three FC (6) vs Bazking in Glory (7)
Flexy's Fairies (10) vs Virgin Surfers (36)
Decies Ant Atac (22) vs The Penalty Kings (4)
Brendy's Bruisers (16) vs Harpic Amsterdam (8)
The Blue Monkeys (17) vs Con Villa (31) OR The Prof's XI (12)
Yer Ma's Athletic (21) vs The Grapes of Raff (1)

So, some interesting ties lie ahead as teams fight for a place in the quarter finals...

Gulladuff Mafia could find it tricky enough against Gazza's Piping Hots? Will the piper call the tune and dump out the defending cup champion?

Defednig league champion Maclacticos are away to Cherry United which based on league positions should be another close affair.

Minus Three FC at home to Bazking in Glory could arguably be the tie of the round as sixth takes on seventh.

Flexy's Fairies is the latest team to face the potential banana skin that is the Virgin Surfers. Can the Virgins stop Flexy's strikers getting into the box and keep it tight at the back?

Decies Ant Atac can count himself lucky to be in the last 16 but will he have any joy against fourth placed Penalty Kings? The "Guru" will fancy his chances.

Brendy's Bruisers at home to Harpic Amsterdam should be another interesting encounter, both showing some form of late. The Harps will be favourites but Bruiser will still be looking for his first piece of silverware.

The Blue Monkeys land a home draw against either Con Villa or The Professor. No prizes for guessing who Shieldsy'll be cheering on in that one (no dosrespect intended!). ;-)

And finally, Yer Ma will need to be very athletic indeed against league leader and former cup champion The Grapes of Raff.

So there you have it. Fear not my lowly placed comrades - as I always say, anything can happen in the Cup... and it usually does.

Good luck to one and all!
