Week 19 Update

Dear All,

In the last update before the all-important and busy Christmas period, here are this week's headlines...

PRINCE EXTENDS LEAD AT THE TOP!!!
The Prince of Darkness has extended his lead at the top of the Premiership to 36 points with a handy 48 points. Many thought he would have crumbled by now but he's still holding on. Has he the experience to last the pace as the season progresses though, or will he cack himself? Time will tell.

BEWARE THE KIRBS!!!
David Pleat's favourite team climbed into third position with the week's highest score of 58 points. As with the Prince of Darkness, Brother Kirby will be suffering from nose bleeds. Indeed, none of the top four teams have won a DITB title yet so we could be in for an exciting scrap... that is if the Big Guns don't start to turn up the heat soon. Nearest to Kirbs in the week's scoring charts were You'llneverwalkalone with 50 points and the aforementioned vampire of the DITB League, sucking 48 points out of his players.

SPEAKING OF BIG GUNS!!!
Former champions The Grapes of Raff (joint 4th), Chelsea Daggers (7th), The Dogs Ballacks (8th) and KFC Academical (yes he really did win it!!!!) are all now hovering in the top ten. Could spell danger for the leaders over the busy Christmas period.

BABER LOOKING CONFERENCE BOUND!!!
A bad week for Minibabybelle FC sees Sister Baber fall to bottom of the Premiership, offering True Blue Strikers a brief reprieve from the position he's made his own this season. Our bottom two are now 60 points off the nearest team Cherry United who faces a battle with a few teams above him to steer clear of the dreaded drop zone.

GULLADUFF'S MA IS PIPING HOT!!!
Yes, the top three teams in the Conference are still looking strong, although Brother Stevenson's 50 point tally moves him to within 42 points of promotion. Still a bit to do by the chasing teams but a few bad weeks and some complacency at the top could see things change. Again, the Christmas period will play a vital role.

A LOAD OF MUCK!!!
Lowest score of the week is Muckamore Utd with a paltry 7 points. With less egg on their faces, but plenty of egg all the same, are Mersey Miracles and Black Socks Red Tops who each scored 15. The latter's promising form of late shattered in one fell swoop.

YOU'RE HISTORY!!!
Surprise surprise, Cool Dude Zoo, probably the worst team in DITB history are already looking lost at the bottom of the Conference. The remaining two relegation places are pretty much up for grabs.

DON'T PANIC!!!
Lady and gentlemen, do not hit those panic buttons just yet. There is still about two thirds of the season to go yet, if you include FFA Cup matches. Why shouldn't you be able to replicate the performance of our current leaders in the months ahead? Similarly, what's to say that the leaders won't go through a lean spell?

Do NOT give up hope. Without knowing how many transfers people have made, then leads don't mean a great deal at this stage. If someone is 50 points ahead of you but you have five transfers more than him, then you are arguably in a better position. Just use those transfers wisely - unlike me I must say although I'm slowly steadying my ship.

I've said it a million times but if there's one thing you should all remember is it this...

Anything can happen............... and it usually does!!!

The Christmas period is very important with teams playing up to four games in a very short period of time. The tables could be transformed dramatically in just one or two weeks.

So roll your sleeves up, check out the fixtures and make some transfers to improve your league position. Just think how much sweeter the ACP will be on January 19 when you're five places higher than you are today. Also, a healthy lead at the top post-Christmas could win you the title. It's all to play for!!!

Next update is due on Boxing Day but I'll be off and lying in a pile like a beached whale with turkey and stuffing dribbling from my puffed up face and cranberry sauce all over my good shirt while my bulging belly hangs out over my trousers which are unbuttoned at the top with the belt lying open to stop me getting stomach cramps and being rushed to hospital.

FA Cup draw

Dear All,

Welcome to Belfast and the live draw for the preliminary round of the DIVING IN THE BOX FFA CUP.
As I mentioned earlier, six Conference League teams will automatically get a bye into the first round proper with the other 12 teams competing for the remaining six first round places.

Rules for the FFA Cup are simple. Whichever team scores the most points in that given week progresses. It doesn't matter what your league position is - but rather how you do on the day.

In the event of a draw, there will be a replay the following week. If it is still a draw after two weeks, the team with home advantage (i.e., the one whose name was drawn first) goes through.

Preliminary matches will take place during the FA Cup third round, i.e., the weekend of January 5/6 so managers involved will have plenty of time to prepare their teams.


And now Brother Johnston will get his balls out and we can start the draw.


All 18 Conference League teams will go into the draw. The following 12 teams will have to battle it out in the preliminary round.... current Conference League positions in brackets.

Week 17 Update

Dear All,

A quick and hearty congratulations this week to Brendy's Bruisers whose top score of 78 points eases Brother Devlin into fourth position in the DITB Premiership.

Ominously The Professor moves into 5th with an impressive 71 points, whilst elsewhere Gulladuff FF scored 63 points to secure second place in the Conference League.

In the face of such high scores, it's been a terrible week for Cool Dude Zoo with 14 (still rock bottom of the Conference), The Dogs Ballacks with 16 (bottom half of the Premiership) and The Busted Clampets with 24 points (bottom half of the Conference).

Harpic Amsterdam will be cacking himself as he now looks down from the top of the Premiership on all other competing teams, whilst the Prince will be reading and weeping at not only losing his season long lead in the league to Brother Molloy, but also being overtaken by self-professed football guru Walls. Still, only three points separate the top three teams in the best league in the world.

In the worst league in the world, Yer Ma's Athletic still leads from Gulladuff FF and Gazza's Piping Hots - all looking good for promotion at this stage. I'm sure a few chasing teams will have something to say about that though!

I've heard back from 12 managers so far regarding the date of the ACP in January.

Once again, the proposed dates are January 12, 19 and 26 - can anyone who has yet to reply, please do so immediately, indicating your preferences.

Next week Brothers Johnston and Nightingale will be helping me with the draw for the FFA Cup - the first time we'll potentially see some real giant-killing in action as teams from the Premiership take on teams from the crap league.
