FFA cup Quarter Final Draw.

Dear All,

From 39 teams, only eight remain who can lift the prestigious Diving in the Box FFA Cup.

The eight teams going into the hat for today's draw are as follows:

Gulladuff Mafia
Maclacticos
Minus Three FC
Virgin Surfers
Decies Ant Atac
Harpic Amsterdam
The Blue Monkeys
The Grapes of Raff

Now, without further adieu, Brother Johnston will get his balls out for the quarter final draw... as always, current league positions are in brackets.

Minus Three FC (6) vs Decies Ant Atac (18)

Looks like an easy home win for Brother Johnston... on paper that is! Decie will be aware that anything can happen over one week.

Virgin Surfers (31) vs Maclacticos (7)

McNally gets the draw everyone was hoping for but it comes with a huge slice of potential embarrassment. Can the Surfers amazing cup run continue against the defendig league champion?

Gulladuff Mafia (23) vs The Grapes of Raff (1)

Don't let the league positions fool you for what is the tie of the round. This re-run of last year's cup final is a battle of two heavyweights - both former league and cup champions. Defending cup champion Gulladuff Mafia won't want to give up the trophy without a fight against the Grapes who are in danger of falling between two stools as they did so dramatically on cup final day last season. A case of deja vu maybe? Exciting stuff.

Harpic Amsterdam (8) vs The Blue Monkeys (12)

They're already billing it as the 'Battle of the Board' and it's true as two members go head to head - and what members they are! All the ingredients for a classic tussle in which Brother Molloy would have strongly fancied himself were it not for the current form of Brother Shields who has risen to 12th in the table in recent weeks. Could be a belter!

That completes the draw for the quarter finals of the FFA Cup. Ties to be played on the weekend of Saturday March 10, 2007.

So there you have it folks - an exciting weekend in store. Thanks again to Brother Johnston for assisting with the draw and good luck to all involved.

Yours Sincerely,

Michael R.

FFL Update 19/02/07

Dear All,

The FA Cup meant that this week wasn't as free scoring as usual although some teams took advantage of this to improve their chances of league glory.

In a week where the national average score was 18, Ashburton Groove N7 tripled that by clocking up an impressive 54 points, ahead of KFC Academical (35) and harpic Amsterdam (33).

Meanwhile, it was another barren week for The Muppets with ZERO points, marginally ahead of The Prof on THREE points (!!!!) and then bazking in Glory and 5-Star who both scored the grand totoal of FOUR points.

At the top of the table, the Grapes hold on to first place with The Dogs Ballacks moving up into second at the expense of The Penalty Kings who are now under pressure from Ashburton Groove! KFC Academical is also keeping pace well while defending champ Maclacticos is on the rise again moving into seventh position.

At the bottom, The Well Hungarians edge ever closer the The Muppets as Brother Nugent desperately tries to salvage something from this terrible season. Who knows... are there enough games od does he have enough transfers left to escape relegation and aim for that coveted 20th position? As I always say, anything can happen........

............. but it most definitely won't in this case!

And in a reverse of last week's form, rising from red to black this week is Yer Ma's Athletic (21st to 20th) with (surprise surprise) Gazza'a Piping Hots going the other way (22nd to 19th).

This weekend's Carling Cup Final means once again that scores might be low for teams with Chelsea and Arsenal players. That certainly means more than a dilemma or two for many managers. Oh to transfer or not to transfer... that is the question!

Just remember... FOCUS!

That's the transfer password this week.

Good luck to one and all over the weekend.

Until next week...

FFA Cup results.

Dear All,

The results of the Diving in the Box FFA Cup are in and as always, there are a few upsets and close shaves.

Here we go...

Gulladuff Mafia 27 vs 12 Gazza's Piping Hots

Defending cup champion eases into quarter finals against a disappointing Gazza Macca.

Cherry United 23 vs 29 Maclacticos

In-form Maclacticos, defending league champion, scores a good away win against the steady Cherries.

Minus Three FC 25 vs 4 Bazking in Glory

Ref should have stopped the fight on this one. Much too easy for Brother Johnston against a hapless Baz.

Flexy's Fairies 10 vs 13 Virgin Surfers

The underdog' amazing cup run continues, despite a score of just 13 (unlucky for Flexy!). The Surfers may have lady luck on their side this year.

Decies Ant Atac 16 vs 9 The Penalty Kings

Crudden clocks shock win against high flying Penalty Kings.

Brendy's Bruisers 22 vs 33 Harpic Amsterdam

Brother Molloy amazingly overturns 17 point deficit on the Friday to leave Brendy well bruised and battered. What a comeback!

The Blue Monkeys 24 vs 3 The Prof's XI

Brother Shields scores a famous win over The Prof whose score maybe reflects his own priority this season, i.e., league survival.

Yer Ma's Athletic 26 vs 27 The Grapes of Raff

The Grapes literally pipped Yer Ma to the post with a great away win overturning a five point deficit on Friday. At what cost to his league ambitions remains to be seen!

So there you have it friends... this year's quarter finalists are as follows.

Gulladuff Mafia
Maclacticos
MInus Three FC
Virgin Surfers
Decies Ant Atac
Harpic Amsterdam
The Blue Monkeys
The Grapes of Raff

Congratulations to all our winners... just three matches away from some silverware.

The draw for the quarter finals will be made later this week. League results to follow later.

Stab on sideroads.

League Update

Dear All,

Not much change at the top or bottom this week but plenty of jumping around mid-table.

Normally this wouldn't really be of interest to anyone but with the league being split into two divisions next season, what goes on in the middle of the table is increasingly important with every passing week.

Just to remind you all, the top 20 teams will make up the Premier Division next season and the rest will be fighting the bit out in Division Two.

Highest scorers this week were Gazza's Piping Hots on 42, followed by Real Goldfish and Cool Dude Zoo on 33.

This week's lowest score, and lowest score of the season, goes to The Muppetaldinhos with NO POINTS but you've got to admire his loyalty to the Mighty Reds, which may yet earn him a place in the FF football elite next season.

Less dramatic but still terrible scores were clocked up by Mersey Miracles (8) and 5-Star (9).

Now it's time to look at who has moved from the red zone to the black zone and vice versa.

Red to Black: The Blue Monkeys (23rd to 17th), Gazza's Piping Hots (25th to 19th)

Black to Red: Decies Ant Atac (20th to 22nd), 5-Star (18th to 23rd) and Mersey Miracles (20th to 25th)

Gazza Mac Watch: Great week for Gaz as he clocks up the week's highest score, makes the last 16 of the cup and moves back into the black zone. Bugger!

A quick note on the FFA Cup replay between Con Villa and The Prof's XI. In the event of another unlikely draw, Con Villa will go through thanks to the initial home draw.

The draw for the last 16 of the FFA Cup will take place before the end of the week. I know you can hardly contain your excitement!

So that's it for another week my friends.

Until next time,

FFA Cup Round 1 Results

Dear All,

It's one of the most interesting and nerve-wrecking updates of the FF season, the FFA Cup First Round results.

Yes, the nail biting period is over and it's time to see who has made it into the last 16 of the Cup.

Great away win for the Harpics against the second placed Ballacks. Bad day all round for the Gooners.
